The temple was built by Rajendravarman on an island constructed earlier by Yasovarman in the middle of the Eastern Baray. The temple would have originally been surrounded by water.

Description

The East Mebon was built in the middle of the Eastern Baray, which is now dry. It is a terraced pyramid topped with five towers, and enclosed by three concentric walls.
